Journalist and writer Julia Baird went to Harvard on a Kennedy School fellowship in 2006.

Through a friend made at Harvard she met John Meacham, who became editor of Newsweek. He convinced Julia to uproot her family and move to the US to work for him.

Julia saw the rise of Barack Obama, and then collapse of the long boom. Sadly, in the end, the collapse of Newsweek itself.

Julia’s now immersed herself in the diaries of Queen Victoria, as she prepares her biography of the queen she believes is seriously misunderstood.
